State Representative Brian Ashe is just finishing his first term in the House of Representatives and is running for re-election. Brian was a three-term member of the Longmeadow Select Board, served three years on the Metropolitan Planning Organization and eight years on the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority Board.
Brian has been a local youth coach in baseball, soccer and basketball and has volunteered his time with many local charities and organizations.
Brian and his wife Sonja of 17 years live in Longmeadow with their two children, Tiernan, 12 and Kyra, 10. Brian is very proud of his first term as State Representative as he has a 100% voting record and voted on all
514 initiatives over the past two years.
Brian is an independent voter. He voted against casinos even though it was supported by leadership. He also opposed leadership when he voted against filling Senator Kennedy’s seat by appointment. He instead voted for transparency to keep this an elected seat by the people, now held by Senator Scott Brown.
When Brian was a Longmeadow Select Board member, he turned back his annual stipend to set an example for the town employees who were asked to take furloughs to help balance the town budget. As a State Representative, he voluntarily turned back a week’s pay to set an example for state employees considering a similar-type furlough program to help balance the state budget. Brian did this to show that he wouldn't ask for anything that he wasn't willing to do himself.
Some of the bills that Representative Ashe sponsored were the Anti-Bullying legislation, No-Texting while Driving legislation as well as the Discounted Prescription Coupon legislation to help reduce the costs for seniors and others.
The State is in a much better position today than it was two years ago when Brian took office. Brian will continue to fight for more reform, work hard for jobs that matter in western Massachusetts, and listen to your needs.
