Mixing religion and politics

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) — Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has been trying to undo the damage of some controversial comments he made on the campaign trail.

When speaking about President Obama’s agenda Saturday, the candidate said: "It's not about your jobs. It's about some phony ideal, some phony theology."

Democrats are criticizing Santorum now, saying that the former Pennsylvania senator questioned President Obama's religion.

Some say religion should not be a part of politics at all. “Why would you want to mix God with anything? Just leave it alone. It has its own place,” Angel Colon of Springfield said.

Despite the comments, Santorum still has a lot of momentum. He is leading in Michigan by up to 10 points in some polls.
