MGM wants to change license process

BOSTON (WWLP) — A casino developer is asking the Massachusetts Gaming Commission for a new casino license process.

MGM Resorts International wants the commission to set aside a two-step application process meant to speed up bidding for casino licenses.

In a letter written to the Gaming Commission, MGM said the two-step process will result in a loss of “resources, time and money” and “lengthen the overall process.” MGM asked the gaming panel to instead stick to a single application process.

The two-step process requires casino applicants to pass financial and integrity checks before submitting a formal bid for a casino license.

Recently, MGM sponsored Springfield with $15,000 for this year’s 4th of July fireworks display.

Earlier this year, MGM dropped plans to develop a casino in Brimfield, and is currently scouting other locations in western Massachusetts.
