Gov's pothole request frustrates some

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) — When First Lady Michelle Obama visits western Massachusetts in two weeks, her car ride will be as bump-free as possible.

Governor Deval Patrick asked town administrators near his Richmond holiday home to tend to potholes in the area before she arrives. The holes were patched at an estimated cost of $100.

According to the Boston Herald, the town administrators in Richmond and West Stockbridge said the fix was no big deal. Republicans, however, argue the governor is burdening taxpayers, and some people think it's a little unfair that similar requests from regular people might go unanswered.

“Well, it's good but I don't think it's fair. We need things to be fixed, and it's not fixed for us,” Amira Coachman of West Springfield said.

Michelle Obama will be in town on August 3rd to attend a $20,000 per seat dinner, hosted by the Democratic Governor. The money raised will benefit President Obama’s re-election campaign.

Earlier the same day, the First Lady will headline fundraisers at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, and at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield.
