Obama Fla. campaign claims ground game advantage

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — President Barack Obama's Florida campaign is claiming an advantage in its ground game in this crucial battleground state as polls indicate a shift toward Republican Mitt Romney.

The campaign sent out a memo Tuesday touting gains made in voter registration and absentee voting numbers compared to four years ago when Obama beat Republican nominee John McCain by 3 percentage points.

The memo says the campaign has shrunk the absentee voting advantage Republicans had here four years ago. It also pointed out that the campaign never left Florida after the 2008 win and has trained 20,000 people to register voters.

The campaign also noted voter registration among black and Hispanic voters has increased substantially since the last election.

The Romney campaign didn't immediately respond to emails seeking comment.
