BOSTON (WWLP) — The governor has declared Thursday, March 07, Massachusetts White Ribbon Day .
As part of Massachusetts White Ribbon Day, men from across the state are promising to be part of the solution to
end violence against women.
Anti-domestic violence group Jane Doe Inc. says in Massachusetts,
1 in 4 women has experienced rape, physical violence or stalking in their lives.
Hundreds of men like Rob Okun, editor of Voice Male Magazine , say men should reconsider what it is to be a man. For the last decade and a half, Okun's Amherst-based magazine has been advocating for men's growth and challenging violence.
According to Okun, “This is part of men redefining what it means to be a man and that we can claim happily and proudly being nurturers and being caring and being respectful.”
Organizers also celebrated President Obama's signing of the Violence Against Women Act that expands protections for victims of domestic violence.
